Hi, I'm Amy. I am 11 years old and I live in a small town in the north of China. My mom works in an office downtown, and she comes home at five in the afternoon. I sleep until one thirty in the morning, then I wake up early to get ready for school. It's usually around six thirty when I leave. The bus ride takes about twenty minutes on weekdays, but sometimes it takes a whole hour if it rains. I like the bus ride because I can see the trees and flowers from my window while I watch the world go by. I go to Xiao Ya Primary School every day. We go there on foot, although sometimes our legs feel a little tired. There are about two hundred students in our class and twenty teachers. We study hard because I think being smart is very important. Math is my favorite subject, and I think numbers are like little friends that help us understand the world. I used to think numbers were scary, but now I see them as helpful tools. For example, if I add 5 plus 7, I get 12.And if I multiply 3 times 4, I get 12.It feels a bit like magic when it works like that, but it's just math. I also like science at school. We learn about the sun and the moon. The sun is hot and bright, and it makes the day light. The moon is different because it goes up and down. Sometimes it is full and bright, and sometimes it is thin and gray. I remember last weekend we watched the moon from my bedroom. It was really cool because I could see it full in the sky. I think the moon is the best friend of ours because it tells us when to go to sleep. I also like reading science books. One of my favorite stories is about a robot that tries to dance. He tries to step into a line, but his legs are too long. He falls down and laughs. Then he learns to be shorter and jumps better. It is very funny and makes me want to read more. My teacher, Mr. Zhang, says that I should try my best to learn more things. He thinks I have a very bright mind. He likes me because I always ask questions about what I do not understand. Last week I asked why clouds are white. He told me that water is clear, but when it gets inside the air it becomes tiny tiny droplets. And clouds have so many of them that they look like white cotton. It is a simple idea, but it takes a little thinking to realize. I found out that I am smart, but I still learn a lot more than some of my friends. I think being a good student is not about getting the highest score on every test, but about trying to understand the things that make me happy. Sometimes I feel a bit lonely at home. My dad goes to work very late, and my mom works very hard. I have to stay up late because I want to finish my homework and maybe do my chores. Sometimes I want to watch cartoons or play video games, but my mom says I need to rest and sleep. I know that it is okay to ask for help. If I am tired, I can rest for an hour or two, and then I will be ready to play again. I believe that taking care of myself is just as important as studying. If I eat well and sleep enough, I will not feel sick or weak. I am learning to be strong and healthy, just like a little flower grows from the dirt. I also like art class. We make pictures with crayons and colored pencils. I draw pictures of my family and my favorite animals. I think art helps me see the world in a different way. Last month I painted a picture of a big pig. I wanted him to be very big and round, like a ball. I drew him with big black eyes and a happy smile. It took me three hours to finish it, but I felt proud when I showed it to my mom. She said it was cute, and I was happy. I dream of going to a big city when I grow up. I want to go to New York or London. There are tall buildings and many people there. I want to see the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Statue of Liberty. I also want to travel to different countries and eat delicious food from there. When I am old, I want to be able to speak English very well, so I can talk to friends from other places. I want to go to a university and learn more things about the world. I want to know why things are the way they are and how they work. That is my biggest goal. I think being an eleven-year-old girl means I have many chances to do things. I can help my mom cook dinner, clean my room, or help my dad with his work. I can also make new friends in school and learn from them. I am not afraid of making mistakes, because I know that every mistake is a chance to learn something new. I want to be kind and helpful to everyone I meet. If someone is sad, I want to be there and listen to them. If someone is tired, I want to offer a hand. These are the things I want to be in the end. I love my school, my friends, and my mom. They are all very important to me. I know that the world is big and full of wonders, and I want to discover them all with my eyes. I will try to be a good person and a good student. I will work hard and play well. I will take care of myself and love myself. I have so many dreams, and I am excited about the future. I will keep my eyes open and my heart full of hope. I am happy to be an eleven-year-old girl today.
